WOMEN UNITE! PALIN IS SHITE!
Oh people…. I’m beside myself. I’ve thrown countless objects at the TV tonight enraged at this so-called exemplary “evolutionary (creationist) step forward” for the United States, not to mention womankind. Give me a fucking break. This candidate didn’t even know the first thing about the CONSTITUTIONAL obligations of a VP let alone how to win the hearts and minds of anyone else besides “Joe 6-pack”…. WTF!!!!
When she accepted the nomination back in August, on the anniversary of Women’s Suffrage to boot, I smelled touble. I don’t like to blog about this stuff but I can’t hold my tongue anymore!!!
This scenario is well-documented online… suffice to say, I take great exception to this unfortunate display because, believe it or not, I care about the future of humankind. As a student of Sociology, Political Science, and Women Studies in college, I was and am still fueled by a what I can only describe as a universal respect, fascination and appreciation for humanity. And what Palin has demonstrated to me is that I WILL NOT even endorse her as a human, she does NOT represent me - not as a woman, or as an American. I do not devalue the accomplishments she has made, for they have become pathetically noteworthy, but that just doesn’t cut it. I don’t want “jane -6 pack” the Hockey-Mom representing me and my country, taking meetings with international heads of state, wearing that ridiculous sparkly flag pin (which looked like she bought it on QVC), let alone telling me what to do with my body. Joe Biden has a bigger vagina than she does for Christ’s sake and that’s a compliment.
And as for foreign affairs, isn’t it already embarrassing enough to be an American? The world’s well-documented, recent distaste for us just turns my stomach. As a 1st generation American who was raised on the values of hard work, eductaion, self-respect, pride, and quiet dignity, I am humiliated by our national image. We have been lulled to sleep as a nation and we just don’t seem to care anymore. Are we too stupid, too broke, too unhealthy, too distracted or too corrupt to give flying fuck about anyone or anything else?? Sure… Give us gossip columns, diet pills, WWF, and a heaping helping of reality TV and we’re all set. It’s pathetic! I’ve been guilty of this too ‘cuz Lord knows sometimes it’s easier to tune out that to tune in….
But not anymore. It’s time to pay attention and get down to business. I blog, therefore I’m in. The powers that be in the good ol’ U.S. of A. must certainly be out of touch with what it means to have a strong sense of class, dignity, and diplomacy and an understanding of other nations and peoples in a global culture (e.g. economy, geo-politics, environment, human rights and standards, et al). Haven’t we already learned the lessons of history? Obviously not.
I was here in NYC on 9/11, I am a New Yorker, at heart and forever. But I will not be a part of this mockery. I am not a member of the a intellectual elite. I am not a factory worker. I am not even a lobbyist. I am an educated independent musician who simply cares about the future - not only for women or Americans, but for all of us everywhere. We don’t need an intellectual manifesto, we just need a manifesto for people who can complete a sentence and pronounce the word nuclear!
